13.Kitchen

This kitchen was used to prepare meals for King Sisavang Vatthana, the queen, and their family, as well as to cook for the royal guards on duty. During King Sisavang Vatthana’s reign, Queen Khamphoui herself often cooked the royal meals. The king’s favorite dishes included grilled fish, spicy dip like jaew bong, fried riverweed (kai paen), vegetable stew, steamed fish (mok pa), and mild fish soup. The kitchen was constructed in 1974. Nowadays, the kitchen has been repurposed as a meeting room and public restroom for visitors.
